Love the simplicity of the design. Peaceful.

I’ve lived through having a beach house, even built it. Our daughter, though, was in so many extracurricular activities we couldn’t get away to use it. I was wondering how you handle that..or maybe it’s not an issue.

Thank you Ruthie, this is actually a topic that we’re so interested in and will definitely be exploring in future posts. A lot of our efforts for fire prevention will come about in the landscaping (ie taking out palm trees that are near the house, using lots of gravel and cement walls in our hardscaping), and we’re also required by City of Malibu to install sprinklers throughout the home’s interior, as well as a backpump from the pool so that the water can be used to fight a potential fire. So much to dive into here!! Thank you for the kind words and following along.

I love it all so much and enjoyed reading the background in the newsletter.

You mentioned the fires, have you looked at building practices for fire prone areas? You mentioned the metal roof which wouldn’t catch a spark, but some other options might be more durable.

You are such a talent, I know you could make anything beautiful; it might be a great way to protect your home and show others how to design and build the most fire resistant homes they can.

Great work!

I call it the money pit (LOL). We love it! I was unable to do an addition without going up, and our entire reason we bought it, besides it being one story was for it’s great charm. I wish you well on your remodel project.

You’ve already identified the most important part of any project: enjoy the journey! Construction is frustrating at best but so worth it!
